Sony @ E3: Press Conference News

Sony’s E3 Press Conference came and went, so what was shown? Quite a bit actually with several notable exclusives.

The Games

The Last of Us – From Naughty Dog (developer of the Uncharted series), The Last of Us looks to bring the studio’s signature action element to tell a story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Following the character Joel and a teenage girl Ellie, you’re working to survive by killing for food, weapons, and materials through an unknown plot. The game looks amazing with much darker gameplay than Uncharted and I’m eager to play it!

BEYOND: Two Souls – The makers of Heavy Rain are back with BEYOND: Two Souls, a psychological action-adventure following Ellen Page who possesses astonishing powers though an invisible entity. Not much of the plot was shown, but a lot of destruction seems to follow her. Looking forward to see some actual gameplay.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale – Not much has changed since I covered this title when it was first announced, though the trailer does show Uncharted’s Nathan Drake and Bioshock’s Big Daddy as playable characters. The game looks fun and I’m hoping to see a lot more third-party characters added like Mega Man and Cloud!

God of War: Ascension – Kratos is back in action hacking and slashing baddies with an arsenal of weapons, including his trusty chainblades, and several environmentally-obtained tools of destruction. Gameplay looks very familiar with a few new stun moves and counter attacks. Nothing revolutionary in the series, but I welcome the title nonetheless.

The Apps

Wonderbook – Perhaps the strangest announcement, Wonderbook – a physical book – works by being read in front of a PlayStation Eye camera to turn the pages into interactive animations on the TV screen. Harry Potter creator JK Rowling is even writing a story for Wonderbook called Book of Spells. If nothing else, at least Sony is making an attempt to revive the ill-supported PlayStation Eye accessory.

Nintendo had their press conference this morning, but there are more events coming. Look for full coverage tomorrow.
